Artist Spotlight: Beverly Townsend

Hello my artist family!

Every once in a while, I meet an artist whose story feels like it was woven together with creativity from the very beginning — and that’s exactly how I felt learning about the wonderful Beverly Townsend from West Warwick, Rhode Island.

Beverly grew up surrounded by art, with parents who painted beautiful landscapes, seascapes, and flowers. I can just picture little Beverly watching in awe as blank canvases transformed into gorgeous scenes from nature. Honestly, what an amazing way to grow up! Talk about having front-row seats to creativity in action.

She shared that traveling with her family and soaking in the beauty of nature made a lasting impression on her. Seeing her parents bring those moments to life on canvas planted a dream in her heart early on — she knew that one day she wanted to do the very same thing.

And art truly has stayed with her through every season of life — from childhood, through raising her children, throughout her career, and now into retirement. I absolutely love that because it’s such a beautiful reminder that creativity isn’t something we outgrow. If anything, it grows right alongside us.

Beverly says that each painting brings her joy and takes her on a peaceful journey, and honestly, you can feel that peacefulness in the way she talks about creating.

When I asked what inspires her most, Beverly didn’t hesitate: nature.

The colors, textures, and natural beauty of the world around her fuel her creativity. But what I especially loved was her perspective that nature isn’t perfect — it’s simply beautiful exactly as it is. Whew… isn’t that such a good reminder for all of us as artists and humans?

And then comes the palette knife magic!

Beverly shared how much she loves using palette knives to create texture, dimension, and movement in her paintings. She even said she’s “hooked on palette knife painting,” and honestly, I completely understand. Once those buttery layers of paint start stacking up, it’s hard to stop. It’s like frosting a cake… except the cake becomes a masterpiece.

The paintings Beverly chose to share reflects her deep love of trees, flowers, and the beauty of the outdoors. You can tell her heart is fully poured into her work because there’s such joy and freedom in the way she creates.

When talking about DabblePaints™, Beverly shared:

“The Dabble Paints are a beautiful creamy thick consistency. The pigments used give these paints a high color strength and vibrancy.”

And hearing that makes my artist heart so happy because those rich pigments and creamy textures are exactly what I hoped artists would experience when creating with these paints.

As for what Beverly enjoys most about painting, she said:

“When I paint I feel such joy, that is what I bring to the paintings, and using the palette knives is so freeing.”

I just love that. You can almost feel the joy dancing right off the canvas. And freedom is such a perfect word for palette knife painting — there’s something wonderfully fearless about it.

When I asked Beverly what advice she’d give to someone just starting out, she shared this beautiful wisdom:

“Just do it. Don’t overthink it, be you, be free, enjoy and remember nature is not perfect, it is just beautiful the way it is.”

That right there is advice worth holding onto. Art doesn’t need perfection to be meaningful. It just needs you.

Beverly, thank you for sharing your journey, your heart, and your love of nature with all of us. Your story is such a beautiful reminder that creativity can stay with us throughout every chapter of life, continuing to bring joy, peace, and beauty along the way.

Keep creating, keep shining, and keep bringing more beauty into the world.

XO,
Jen
