Artist Spotlight: Pamela Gracey

Hello my artist family!

Today I get the joy of introducing you to the lovely and talented Pamela Gracey from East Haddam, Connecticut — an artist whose journey is such a beautiful reminder that growth happens one joyful brushstroke at a time.

Pamela began painting for fun about ten years ago, simply exploring and enjoying the creative process. Then in 2020, she found our DabblePaints community and started learning palette knife painting. I absolutely love hearing stories like this, because sometimes all it takes is one new technique, one spark of inspiration, or one “let me try this!” moment to change everything.

And change it did.

Pamela became a Lifetime Member when it opened, and today her artwork is being shown in a variety of galleries. How amazing is that? She started painting for fun, and now her work is out in the world blessing others. That’s what I call a glow-up with a palette knife.

When I asked what inspires her creativity the most, Pamela shared something many of us can relate to: nature.

She loves the beauty of the outdoors, and most of her artwork reflects peaceful natural scenes. Honestly, it’s no surprise, because artists who love nature have an endless gallery right outside their door.

And the painting she chose to share sounds absolutely breathtaking.

Her piece, “Summit Chorus,” is a stunning mountain scene featuring lakes, pines, and aspen trees, with subtle birds flying overhead to bring the painting to life. Pamela said this is the largest painting she has ever completed — a 48” x 60” gallery wrapped canvas — and it will be displayed in a local gallery.

Can you imagine standing in front of that beauty in person? I’d probably stare at it so long someone would need to bring me snacks. Between the scale, the scenery, and those little birds in flight, it sounds like the kind of painting that pulls you right into the landscape.

When I asked what she loves about DabblePaints, Pamela shared that the paints are “creamy, smooth, and have great pigments, so the color goes a long way.”

Now you all know that makes me smile. Rich pigment, buttery texture, beautiful coverage… yes please and thank you. That’s exactly why I created them.

Pamela also shared that one of the things she enjoys most about painting is how it helps her unwind, reduce stress, and explore her creative side.

Isn’t that such a gift? Painting can be so much more than making something pretty. It can be peace, healing, joy, and a deep exhale at the end of a long day.

And when I asked what advice she would give to someone just starting out, she shared wisdom I know so many artists need to hear:

“Just have fun. Once I really understood that you can't make mistakes, I could add another layer, I truly began to blossom as an artist. Also, just be as relaxed and loose as possible while painting. I found that when I tried too hard to incorporate details, it was more difficult. Once I relaxed and had fun, the magic happened.”

Whew… that is gold right there.

Pamela, thank you for sharing your story, your heart, and your beautiful journey with us. You are such an inspiration to this artist family, and I know your words will encourage so many others to loosen up, trust the process, and let the magic happen.

Keep creating, keep shining, and keep bringing more beauty into the world.

XO,
Jen
