Artist Spotlight: Wanda Vinson

Hello my artist family!

Today I’m so excited to introduce you to one of our talented community artists, Wanda Vinson from Abilene, Texas.

One of the things I love most about this artist family is seeing how creativity finds its way into every season of life, and Wanda’s story is a beautiful example of that. She’s always been a creative spirit, enjoying all kinds of hands-on projects—from crocheting and painting wood pieces to creating pallet paintings. If there was a craft supply aisle nearby, I have a feeling Wanda was probably already planning her next project!

When COVID arrived, Wanda made the decision to retire from her nursing career and suddenly found herself with something many of us wish we had more of—time. As she began exploring new creative outlets, she discovered DabblePaints™ and jumped right in. And when I say jumped in, I mean jumped in! Wanda has completed more than 90 paintings so far, which is absolutely incredible.

Her dedication and passion for painting even led her to open a booth at a local store featuring handmade and specialty items. Best of all, her paintings have been selling beautifully. I always love hearing stories like Wanda’s because they remind us that it's never too late to try something new, grow your skills, and share your creativity with the world.

When asked what inspires her creativity the most, Wanda’s answer was simple and heartfelt:

God’s beautiful creations in landscapes.

And honestly, I think many of us can relate to that. There’s something special about a breathtaking sunset, rolling hills, or a peaceful countryside scene that makes you want to pick up a palette knife and start creating.

One of the photos Wanda shared is of her booth at Vendors Village in Abilene, where she proudly displays her artwork. The second was taken during an Art Walk Festival event, showcasing not only her paintings but also the incredible journey she’s been on as an artist.

When I saw her booth filled with painting after painting, I couldn't help but smile. Ninety-plus paintings later, I think it's safe to say Wanda didn't just dip her toe into painting—she cannonballed right into the creative pool! And what a beautiful splash she's made.

When it comes to DabblePaints™, Wanda shared what she loves most:

“I love the smoothness and thickness of the paint. It glides on so fabulous.”

I completely understand what she means. There’s something so satisfying about paint that moves beautifully across the canvas while still giving you that rich texture we all love. It makes the creative process feel effortless and joyful.

As for painting itself, Wanda’s favorite part is the journey of creating and continuing to grow as an artist. Looking at everything she has accomplished since she started painting, it’s easy to see how much joy she has found in the process.

And when I asked Wanda what advice she would give someone just beginning their painting journey, she offered some wisdom that every artist needs to hear:

“Practice, practice, practice. Patience is needed to get past the ugly (sorry Matt) stage.”

That made me laugh because every artist knows exactly what she’s talking about. There’s that moment in nearly every painting when it looks like it might never come together—and then suddenly, it does. The "ugly stage" is simply proof that you're creating something worth finishing.

Wanda, thank you for sharing your story, your artwork, and your creative journey with us. Your willingness to embrace a new chapter, learn new skills, and keep creating is such an inspiration to our entire DabblePaints™ community. I know your story will encourage so many artists to keep practicing, stay patient, and trust the process.

Keep creating, keep shining, and keep bringing more beauty into the world.

XO,
Jen
